Can't believe no one has made a topic about this yet seeing as we're a few weeks away, but what are your predictions for this upcoming college football season? I love College Football can't wait til it starts smile.gif

*edit* I'd like to see Penn State go to the Orange Bowl with a record of 10-2 or 11-1 with losses to Michigan and/or Ohio State but college football is so unpredictable. They could do better, could do worse.

I really hope OSU doesn't get in the NC game again. They've been HUGE letdowns when they get into a big game against a real team.

USC, though still a hardcore fan of Hawaii. Their backup QB won't actually have a hard time filling Colt Brennan's shoes, he's pretty good.

They probably will ThumbDown.gif considering the only really rough game will be USC and possibly Wisc.(playing in Wisc. stadium), and that's early on. The Big 10 is shit except for OSU and Wisc., Pen State have an outside chance, but if the ball bounces the right way they could take the Big 10(that would be nice icon_cool.png ).

The SEC is top to bottom the deepest conference, but it will be hard to get to the championship game if other teams only have a loss or no losses, because of the meatgrinder that is the SEC.

Michigan isn't even close yet, with a new coach and new system it'll take a few years of recruiting to get them to right the ship.

Michigan isn't suppose to be very good this year, do they even have a definite QB yet? Anyway most projections have them finishing 4th in the conference and I see Penn State beating them quite easily.

Or any decent RB, atleast based on their performance. All the hype about McGuffie? 8 rushes for 8 yards. And combined as a team 25 rushes for 36 yards, thats awful.

I actually lol'd at Missouri in a little article they had on ESPN.com. Them talking about the high expectations they have. After what, one or two good years? lol

QUOTE

But Missouri has won 13 of its past 15 games, and Sudden Entitlement Syndrome has afflicted much of the Show-Me State. After finishing 2007 in the top five and starting 2008 ranked sixth in The Associated Press poll -- the highest preseason ranking in school history -- the Tigers apparently now fancy themselves the USC of the Midwest.

From that warped new worldview, scoring the most points in school history against a ranked opponent elicits no giddiness. Hanging the most points on Illinois in its past 30 games -- three more than the Trojans scored in the Rose Bowl in January -- doesn't move the needle on the Joy-O-Meter. Watching your Heisman Trophy-candidate quarterback rack up 323 passing yards, 46 rushing yards and three passing touchdowns produces no overt fawning.

"That just comes with the expectation level around here," QB Chase Daniel said.

Those expectations made this the biggest season opener in school history. And the current Tigers should know their history.

Yo, guys: You're Missouri. Teams get five downs against you. Teams kick balls in the air and catch them for the winning touchdown against you. Your last conference championship was in 1969.

So soak that up and celebrate for a minute.

You call me a dumb fuck just because I make a little fun of your team? I wonder what would happen if I went a little further. Would you cry?

Anyways, your team finally made a spark in the football world for the first time in almost 40 years. Congratulations. Now they act as though they've been the same team now, for 40 years. Your expectations should not be so high considering you're just a flash in the pan and bet you won't be anymore than that.

Teams like Penn State, Florida State, Miami, USC, Florida are the teams that should have the high expectations. Not a team like Missouri.

and florida... welcome to real football hawaii

anyways... comin from alabama ill talk about them. i was very impressed with their game against clemson... i was expecting (with some hopeful thinking) a win against clemson.. but not by 21 points. Alabama i think has their shit together a lil better this year and some good recruits from the new coach... its still a process tho with the entire team and recruitment. im lookin for alabama to beat our huge rival auburn this year and pullin an upset or 2 but also gettin upset once or twice this season.

USC looks really good to me this year from readin up on them and just lookin at them (even after just 1 game) even tho im not a fan of USC at all and just wish they could play the top 3 teams in the SEC every year to prove their not the best year in and year out.

as im watchin the Tenn. Ucla game right now with 2 mins left... cant be more dissappointed in the way Tenn. has played this 2nd half. gotta hand it to the offensive coordinator of UCLA tho for some great plays called. But honestly theres no reason tennessee shouldnt be up by 20 points with like 3 missed FGs and a fumble at the wat 3 yard line... heartbreaker that was. But o well i dont like tennessee but i do represent my SEC teams.

EDIT: (on tenn. game 5 secs left kickin the FG) if he woulda missed that damn FG he wouldnt be welcomed back by any tenn. fan. still no reason this game shouldnt be to tenn. by 20 points

EDIT: wow so UCLA actually beat a decent team by a fluke... unbelievable... shoulda easily been 39-24 game

Not a team like Missouri.

think ur a bit biased there with ur florida state comment... and notice ya got 3 florida teams outa 5 teams there lol

daniel and maclin both have good chances at winning the heisman

Just a piece of what was said. And I laugh at it every time, especially what the QB said LOL

Teams like Penn State, Florida State, Miami, USC, Florida are the teams that should have the high expectations. Not a team like Missouri.

the reason their expectations are so high for this year is because of how they did last year and by how many starters are returning, chase daniel was in the running for the heisman last year, hes only gotten better this year, maclin set the record for most total yards by a freshman in history last year (ive heard several college football analysts say he could be in the running for heisman this year as well), hes only gotten better this year, 10 returning starters on defense, its only gotten better, considering we had a great year last year i think weve only gotten better based on whos returning

i dont know where youre getting this bullshit about how were all saying weve been great for 40 years, your only quote by someone from missouri is chase daniel saying "That just comes with the expectation level around here," yea as i said before the reason our expectations are so high is because of last year and how much of the team is returning this year, he didnt say anything about us being great for 40 years

oh and by the way you dont have to be good for 40 years for people to expect you to do well and have high expectations for 1 season in case you were wondering

as of lately other than that flukey tenn ucla game?

and honestly i dont care much for the teams out west... i do however like USC and find them to be a good team year by year. but i got a few friends from out there and i no how much shit ive heard from many of the pac 10 teams and a couple other teams out west how much shit the SEC gets from them. ive heard it all... mainly overrated or cheatin the NC game.

The entire south... mainly Texas and Alabama (where football is seriously a 2nd religion to people here trust me) and even Florida as of the past 10 years are known for football excellence from very young ages to high school where shit gets very serious and then college where it all is religion.

but really wat matters is the teams end of the season record... bowl games... and ofcourse the nation championship... which in the past 10 years has been won by 7 teams of the south... 4 of them being in the SEC

Well clearly I don't have insider information, but when they said he was available to play last week against Ohio I would think he would be in for the biggest game of OSU's year a week after. Thoroughly impressed? Why would I be? If anything the only game I've been "thoroughly impressed" with was last week's trouncing of Oregon State, really the only semi-decent team we've played thus far. You don't see me posting around on this topic saying "OMG WIN AGAINST COASTAL CAROLINA PSU NUMBER 1!!!!!!!". I'm not stupid, I realize that Coastal Carolina is a shit team, so is Syracuse. But I will tell you one thing, our offense does look sick.

Arizona State lost.

i never guaranteed beanie was gonna play but i was pretty damn sure he was... and i was simply shocked to hear that he wasnt. After hearing his availability last week just made me think they were givin him an off week to rest and use him against USC.

Wasnt expecting OSU to win the game but i did expect them to score 9 maybe 10 points and USC to score at least 28.

anyways talk about a few SEC 1st i guess... wow at the Auburn game... 3-2... like a damn baseball score... that game sucked. It was a punting fest full of some sloppy offense then good defense. Got tired of that game really quick lol.
Alabama looked good even tho they played an easy game... they still performed well and had their way with West Kentucky. Well just see wat happens next week against Arkansas... a team we usually have a good bout with.

Georgia didnt look that great at all... and they usually dont against South Carolina. But nonetheless being the number 2 team in the nation they shoulda pulled SC way more than that. Georgia got saved by 2 turnovers.

anyways other teams... Ucla got stomped lol. made me chuckle

Penn state put plenty of points on the board like they have been. they look good but really havent been very tested yet. however i think theyll do fine.

Mizzou is lookin really good themselves. ima keep an eye on them for sure.

No real surprises today. With Auburn and East Carolina losing, looks like Penn State is movin' on up in the rankings smile.gif

Posted by: Warriorfreed Sep 21 2008, 05:47 AM

I wanted East Carolina to win oh well i guess.

Posted by: it0is0huge Sep 21 2008, 06:17 AM

Ye Penn State suck, I agree.

Posted by: Pkerhottie1 Sep 22 2008, 01:14 AM

By the looks of it Penn State gets to win the Big Ten and then get blown to shit by USC in the Rose Bowl.

Bummer Aurburn lost, anyone on these forums could have done a better job punting than their punter.

Down to hoping Alabama or Texas go to the national champ game ThumbUp.gif

USC will likely go to the national championship game... For the last two years the Big 10 has sent their best team to the NC game, while the Pac-10's best team goes against the Big 10's second or 3rd best team. This year it actually might be a competitive Rose Bowl.

ROLL DAMN TIDE

u no u better root for the tide this game! im rooting for ur nittany lions dangit

games im watchin for:

ofcourse

"Athens is the scene of this week's marquee matchup when Georgia hosts Alabama. The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive road win at Arizona State while the Tide hammered Arkansas. The spotlight will be on a pair of freshmen receivers: Alabama's Julio Jones and Georgia's A.J. Green. Georgia and Alabama have met five times when both were ranked, with the Bulldogs winning all five meetings."

also wana see how texas pulls against arkansas

"Arkansas and Texas meet in Austin in a make-up game delayed by Hurricane Ike. The Longhorns have rolled through their early-season schedule, winning each game by at least 29 points. The Razorbacks dropped their first game to Alabama by 35. The Longhorns are 55-21 all-time against the Razorbacks."

and i def wana see this

"Clemson continues its climb back up the rankings when it hosts Maryland. The Tigers have outscored opponents 126-26 to win their last three games. It'll be the conference opener for the Terps, who beat Eastern Michigan last week. Maryland has won two of its last three road games against Clemson."

props to espn for the previews

Can only wait to hear the SEC is so tough rants, which it of course is the hardest league but you have to beat the teams you're suppose to beat. Florida gave it away with their 3 turnovers, nothing else. Not like it matters anyway, they probably wont even fall out of the top 10.

and as for Florida.... wow wat the fuckin A. my buddy told me bout that shit... im amazed. I knew that all the SEC teams were gonna beat up on each other but Florida losing to fuckin Ole Miss?????????? come on florida...

guess Usc's loss shoulda prepared us for some let downs in the polls

looks like auburns tryin to lose to fuckin tennessee too.

Fucking aye, another loss for us.

Ole Miss beats Florida
Michigan beats Wisconsin
Navy beats Wake Forest
Maryland beats Clemson

Only thing that coulda made it better was Penn State to lose :X.. and LSU to lose and just for kicks have let oklahoma lose so big bad Texas could be #1 and Bama #2 lol tongue.gif

I really hope OSU doesn't get in the NC game again. They've been HUGE letdowns when they get into a big game against a real team.

Was definitely an exciting game and good win for the Buckeyes. Penn State looked somewhat sluggish against an average Purdue team. PSU/OSU game should be fun, PSU has a few things against them though playing away and never beating OSU @ OSU since joining the Big 10...

bama had a close game that shoulda been bama leading by 20 pretty much the whole game but ill take it

penn state had another win yet didnt score their big ol 50 pts or w/e with their unstoppable offense im hearin bout.

alabama doesnt have ANY guaranteed losses and neither does texas... but texas is in for a run playin mizzou, oklahoma state, and then texas tech (the team i think has the best chance of winnin out of all these 3).

bama has tennessee at knoxville which should be a bit tough of a game and the real killer of LSU at LSU. if we do have a loss or 2 this season im suspecting it to be these 2. but im hopin to make it thru with just 1 loss being to lsu or hey... why not go undefeated lol. hope big

Texas would have to lose twice to be out of the national picture, and USC probably three times rolleyes.gif .

5 - 1, depending on how things play out could be playing for the ACC Championship. My expectations for FSU aren't that high this season. They'll probably end up 8 - 4, 9 - 3. Which in my opinion is great considering Jeff Bowden had us almost at losing seasons.

Next year we should be a top 15/10 team, and the year after that I have us being a NC contender smile.gif

Yea but have you seen how much Threet sucks? Imo if Pryor would have dedicated to us instead of Michigan we would be 10x better sad.gif

Posted by: Kakashi Oct 19 2008, 03:47 AM

Well that comes with the recruiting ;P You either get them or you don't. Rodriguez needs to show people that Michigan is still a place to go for football.

He'll get it done. It's all just a cycle. Florida State is just getting out of that cycle, Miami (The U) is trying to climb their way out of the cycle. It's just Michigan's turn now.

And yes Sara, Penn State will get into that phase of the cycle sooner or/than later ;o

im not gonna lie... being a true alabama fan. Friday i had a bad feeling all day and honestly was thinkin ole miss was gonna upset us.

so yeah i kinda picked ole miss over bama... and we barely eeked out a win sadly. even tho ole miss doesnt seem too bad this year... especially after beatin florida(on their offday) but still.

Mizzou lost to texas like i thought they would. and im still thinkin texas tech has a good chance of taking texas down.

as for penn state. yeah ive always liked them but i also picked a small upset to them as well by michigan... and that obviously didnt happen even tho it seemed somewat possible when it was 17 - 7 i believe?

USC stomped one of the worst 5 teams in the nation and that comes as no suprise to me.

but how bout fuckin bringam young losing and wake forest getting shut out. wow wat the hell was that shit lol.

Posted by: Kakashi Oct 19 2008, 01:36 PM

I'm so happy that Brigham Young and Wake Forest lost. Neither of them deserved the spots they were getting. I will give it to BYU, they earned their spot more than Wake Forest did.

Wake Forest was never good this year. They just got extremely lucky in a few close games. Their offense is nothing and their defense is what kept them in games. They robbed my Noles, we should be 6 - 0. But that's CFB. Our offense was still fresh out of the locker rooms and had little experience against a non D1AA team.

Honestly, even though it's not the greatest, the ACC is definitely the craziest conference this year embarassed(2).gif. Duke's doing well, Virginia and Maryland keep throwing the standings into chaos, and now Boston College threw Virginia Tech down.

Ohio State Vs Penn State should be interesting. Gonna get to see wat both teams are made of. PSU has only had like 1 maybe 2 decent opponents theyve beat this year. So well see how they do against a pretty good OSU team. OSU can do some proving after having 1 loss. they could put themselves back into the big runnings.

2 undefeated teams Texas and Oklahoma State (who has been doin really good the past couple weeks) i wana see this game badly. As i said before i expected Texas to woop Mizzou but these next 2 weeks are gonna be really rough. If Oklahoma state doesnt bring texas down i expect Texas tech to do the job.

1 of my more worried games of the season is next week. Tennessee at Knoxville. Huge rivalry. Alabama fans hate tenn. and 1 of our really good main players Cody big ol 375 lber is hurt for at least 2 games. And if we (bama) dont get our shit together with this 2nd half slacking shit were gonna end up losing to LSU for sure. We let Georgia come back huge in the 2nd half as well as Ole miss lettin them score 17 pts in the 2nd half to our NONE and even letting kentucky come back as well. Saban is gonna work them bama boys this week i guarantee that.

Typical frat-boy fags that, sadly, you'll see at many colleges. Certainly isn't representative of the majority of our student section (ya know, the ones that actually know what quarter it is and what the score is). To be honest, the ones that do that kind of shit probably aren't even at the game anyway. Just one of the many reasons I hate frat boys.

Their schedule really wasn't THAT weak. Yea we're not playing in a stacked conference, but the opponents we DO play, we handle them pretty well. We ripped Oregon State apart (who, if you remember, beat USC). We ripped Wisconsin in Wisconsin, and just last night beat a VERY good Ohio State team @Ohio Stadium. Penn State never gets the respect it deserves year in and year out for playing in a so-called "weak" conference, but you know what? When we go to bowl games, we get shit taken care of and we come out with a W, that much you can't deny. I expect nothing less for whatever bowl we go to, be it National Championship or the Rose Bowl.

Penn State will proly go to the national champ game just because of how weak their schedule is =/

...wouldn't that be a reason for them NOT to go to the national championship? lol Oh and what's this JUST BECAUSE bullshit? You're acting as if we've accomplished nothing so far this season, which doesn't surprise me because the Big 10 gets no respect at all.

Not when they win out and other teams can't do that because they play teams who can actually do something...

Teams have won out and have been shafted from the National Championship before. We'll just wait til the bowl that PSU goes to, then I can say I told you so.

And last I checked EVERY team is capable of beating any team on any given day, that's what makes college football so great. Except Michigan coz well.. they just suck.

I really hope the NC game will be something like Texas and USC v2 or Texas vs Florida/Bama/Georgia.

Hey Sara, imagine if FSU wins out and goes to the Orange Bowl after winning the ACC title (it's possible at this point), PSU vs FSU again icon_cool.png?

You're playing Florida. You guys won't win out, but it I thought about it for like .3 seconds. Besides, if we don't make it to the BCS national champ. we'd be in the Rose Bowl.

their offense i keep hearin o so much about didnt do shit against an actual good team they play this season haha. but yeah that fumble... oi lol.

Hey it's possible that we could win it. Miami hung in with Florida for three quarters with their defense. And our defense is better than theres (sometimes embarassed(2).gif). So it's not at all impossible for us to win out.

Defense was on display at it's finest. It was a prime time road game in a hostile environment as well. They've blown just about everyone else out of the water, this was really the only game where we didn't completely blow a team out of the water. It was a good ole' fashioned defensive Big Ten game.

not necessarily honestly... if a team has a really "weak" schedule it seems they get the shaft from bcs and other bowls in the past. and yeah i think they do have a somewhat weak schedule... if i recall they had illinois (their not bad) ... obviously OSU which they took care of business there... barely. and Wisconsin isnt too too shabby really.

Don't think you're understanding quite what I'm saying. Anytime you have two strong defensive teams from the Big Ten, that have A LOT to prove, it's going to be a low scoring affair. Both of these schools pride themselves on defense (PSU isn't known as Linebacker-U for nothing).

fuck i hope so... we sure put it to them last year... i think we really won that game... i forgot the call but i no there was a bad call that changed the game big time... and it was in t town i was there... drunk... but i was there lol. anyways we werent nearly as good last year as we are this year and they were national champs last year so hey...

anyways time to talk about some random games

Texas tech and kansas... wow at the beginning i was pleasantly suprised to see kansas stayin with them... checked back bout 20 mins later maybe and its like fuckin 56 - 14 or some shit Texas tech... like WAT THE FUCK. Thats that offense ive been talkin bout that i can see takin texas down somethin like 48 - 43 or some high scorin game next week.

alabama played tennessee in tennessee... 1 of 2 games i was really really worried about this year (2nd being LSU) didnt look good at 1st but we warmed up and put a lil hurt on them boys. tired out their defense and boom we beat em.

Georgia beat LSU... pretty badly too. was a lil suprise for me honestly... but the bigger suprise was the fuckin points on the board holy freakin shit.

and how bout them gators... 63 - 5. against kentucky... if florida wouldnt of fucked up against ole miss theyd be number 2 if not number 1 possibly. They looked UNBEATABLE in that game... just had their way with kentucky.

Posted by: Sweetstick Oct 27 2008, 12:10 AM

Problem with Texas Tech is that they have NO defense. At all. So unless they score and score A LOT they won't be able to stop Texas.

But I want Tech to win and then lose to OU. #.

Posted by: Kakashi Oct 27 2008, 12:22 AM

Yeah that's my whole deal with Texas Tech. I like football teams that can play on both sides of the ball. Not just stack one side. I mean, if someone shuts down Tech's offense, they're going to have a MAJOR field day.

How about Kansas State keeping up with Oklahoma for awhile this weekend? Had they not had those turnovers and made those mistakes it woulda been a much closer game. However that's what separates the good from the best I suppose.

and how bout them gators... 63 - 5. against kentucky... if florida wouldnt of fucked up against ole miss theyd be number 2 if not number 1 possibly. They looked UNBEATABLE in that game... just had their way with kentucky.

the big 12's defenses cant even come close to touching the sec's defense. but they all have some sick ass QB'S who can throw the shit outta a football

You said Penn State would lose to Ohio State. You've also said for each playoff round the Phillies have gone through so far that they would lose, you were obviously wrong for the first 2 and are about to be wrong about the world series. That would be strike 3. May I advise you not take a career in sports journalism.

florida has been very impressive these last few weeks i believe they will rout georgia.

Oh and about the texas/texas tech game, Texas tech can probably win if they have a few plays on defense,i mean last game they had to punt only once..and it was like in the fourth fucking quarter so i believe they can.

ESPN has Penn State vs Texas for the National Title game. Meaning they think Alabama is going to slip up. Really hope not ;o

I think the rap that the Big 12 Defenses are getting is because of who they are playing. No other league has THIS many good teams in it. While yes, the Defenses aren't as good as they used to be, the opposition that they are playing against is MUCH tougher than any other league, lol. It's a bit unfair to say that the defenses are horrible when they are playing against the best offenses in the country.

Well ESPN analysts were talking yesterday about how Florida could possibly jump Penn State and get into the NC game depending on if they win out. Since their strength of schedule is way ahead of Penn States, they said that could give them an edge. Penn State is 64th in the nation in terms of schedule strength, and Florida, Bama, Texas are all in the 10 - 20's rankings in schedule strength.

Georgias got a hard schedule yes but i dono if its really THE sole hardest... there are a couple teams in the SEC that have roughly the same schedule... just havent performed as well (obviously or theyd be ranked).

Texas has had a pretty durn rough schedule as well... facin 3 pretty damn good ranked teams week by week. That is not easy to come by at all

i will hand it to u however... Georgias schedule this year is a bit tougher than Floridas and Alabamas. But nothin dramatically different.

honestly i wouldnt feel bad for penn state if they did go undefeated and didnt go to the BCS bowl... i would but i wouldnt. Compared to the schedules of all of those teams u listed above. Their schedules ARE much harder than penn states has been this year (however i do give them credit and will if they do go undefeated)

Each year their is a team that is left out of the title game who believes they deserve to play in it. I think Penn State could end up being that team. If they can win the rest of their games including the Big Ten championship they should play for the National Title. Texas and Alabama are currently the other two top competitors for the title game. If they can finish the rest of the season undefeated no doubt in my mind they will play each other in the National Champions purely due to the strength of schedules they have versus Penn State's. In my opinion Big 12 and SEC are the most dominate conferences this year and each will have one team in the National Title game, although Penn State would have a good argument.

Explain to me how that'll happen when Texas Tech is ranked 7th, they have yet to beat Texas tonight (although I hope they will) and Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma won, so there really is no way they'd jump past PSU regardless, even if they beat Texas. If they even beat Texas, then 'Bama, PSU, Oklahoma and Florida would all move up, Texas Tech would be 3rd/4th/5th at best. Shall we look at it the other way? If Texas Tech doesn't beat Texas, then the rankings won't change at all.

Sit down. And while you're at it, take your bitterness about your Bo Sox and my World Champion Phillies elsewhere.

Posted by: Kakashi Nov 2 2008, 03:26 AM

Florida should jump up pretty high. They've consistently beaten GOOD teams by a VERY large margin.

Fuck sake, there goes Texas. Florida BETTER jump up into #2 by the end of the season.
