how could you possibly call this the ultimate metal guide if you neglect bands and genres because you dislike them. glam and hair metal bands of the 80's are as important to metal as metallica and any other band.

Why should anyone care about your opinion when you try to class alexisonfire as metal LOL

LOLOLOLOL

Any following of motley crue was pretty much deader than disco until tommy lee banged pamela anderson and then WOW MOTLEY CRUE REUNION TOUR.

Fox 021, don't post on this topic. You don't know anything. Also you're trying to make fun of someone because they are not "known"? How retarded are you...

Its good guide

But Amon Amarth fall under theyre own sorta genre, iknow alot dont like classing it as Viking metal but it really isnt black or even near melodic death.

Same for the Swedish Melodic Death bands you named, theres sorta two categories, you have your traditional melodic death with the huge emphasis of keyboards, but then you get into Gothenburg Melodic Death which the bands like At The Gates/Dark Tranquility etc helped form which has different style of vocals and less emphasis of the keyboard.

And Rammstein isnt Industrial, they have there own german specific genre which is famous in germany called Neue Deutsche Härte Metal or as the band members say Tanz-Metall (dance)

Dude I could class every metal band differently lol for example Metallica is classical thrash heavy metal and slayer is deathened thrash speed metal etc, I stick to a basic category otherwise I'd be doing it all year.

Amon Amarth use elements of every extreme metal genre and if you really want I could explain every song in terms of musical technique. For the sake of the guide I write down what they touch on so fans of melodic death might think about listening to them as well as black metal fans etc and I'm sure a lot of both would like them. It's more of a quick reference, don't read too much into it L

Kamelot's new album Ghost Opera's really good, you should check it out. Sonata Arctica's another great band, and Nightwish definitely deserves a listen. I actually don't think there was a huge band out there that you didn't cover in the guide. Very nice! ThumbUp.gif

Mm nice guide but I think you should take out the ratings because that's only your taste in music and I and probably other people won't agree with them.

It's a LIVE RATING, as in my impression after seeing them live. Not them as a band in all.

I have a lot of time on my hands until November when I start work, I felt I needed to do something for metal while I was still bumming around.

Scrolled thru it pretty fast and saw a few flaws. Some of the descriptions of the genres with some bands are a bit of here and there, like Bathory, no viking? Venom no black? hehe... and Sabaton is from Sweden and not Finland=)

Oh yeah.... Celtic Frost but no Hellhammer? Mercyful Fate but no King Diamond? Also bit sad not to see much by the great death metal bands that pioneered in sweden in the late 80s/early 90s. And Possessed needs some information!

Also, thought it would be more of history of the different genres and not just name dropping of different bands.

Anyway cool guide and nice to see you listed CANCER!

I dont really class Viking as a class of metal, it's just the lyrics, I can see what you mean and I wanted to include Viking but it doesn't really say much about the elements of music. I'll fix Venom must of been a slip.
I got my information about where bands are from using Wikipedia so I'll fix Sabaton too.

I'm not a big Celtic frost fan so I researched. I'll also add King Diamond. What Swedish death metal bands from the 80's ?

I was gonna include history and genre explanation but honestly I burnt out doing this, took forever so maybe I'll add something later.

Oh and Karl I'll add those Machine head songs just for you lol.

Marie, I'm not big on black metal so I guess I could get some advice. I'm much more of a thrasher.

Hmm ok i dont agree at all with you there on Bathory. Hellhammer is pre-Celtic Frost but just as important.

Nihilist, Dismember, Grotesque, Carnage etc.

Ok ok I'll add viking lol, but it's like saying bands that write about the government should be 'polictical metal'
there's no actual musical intent by saying 'viking metal' is it not just melodic death/black with viking based themes. What makes 'viking' different in MUSICAL TERMS from melodic death?

Dismember is in there already and I'll look into the others, cheers.

So Death Metal without the lyrics isnt Death Metal?

Lots of folk influences. just take a listen to Hammerheart, Twilight of the gods or Nordland II by bathory and ull see.

Pretty much every band I said I didn't care for I said something like 'but if your into that kinda thing they are worth checking out' I tried not to do down any bands unless I was a big fan of them and they changed for example.

AND Venom first played the song "black metal" here

btw luke Venom was never black metal they may have created the idea of black metal and made an album + a song called black metal but they were thrash but ALL FUCKING HAIL VENOM THE REASON WE HAVE BLACK AND DEATH METAL - death metal was built upon thrash and black

cof is goth metal even though a few of their fans (retarded ones) like to say they are black Dani has said many times COF is not black nor do they want to be

deicide is satanic death metal not brutal ;p and yeah they are reallllly anti christian lol glen the lead singer burns an upsidedown cross in to his head

amon amarth = viking death metal

its "gorgoroth" not "gogoroth" ;p

immortal is black not death

chimaira nu metal? LOL.

btw the reason for alot of anti christian / satanism in norway is it was a pagan country till the christians converted them a guy from i think burzum commented on this saying its the reason he helped varg burn down a church

didnt comment on mayhems eventful history ;p?

sorry to pick at it but some of my fav bands ;p

QUOTE(marie` @ Dec 14 2007, 03:39 PM) *

Hmm, isn't that what all brutal death metal does?

i have yet to hear CC, amon amarth, ect mention satan

Bound from the light to the end of eternity...
Fighting for rights for the realm of antiquity
All that is evil and right hand of god...
Trinity bound and defying his cross...

Homage for Satan, cursing dissension, forced isolation
To the lake of fire...

Will and free thought you have brought to the edge of eve,
Nothing to stop what they thought was the truth to be...
God without Satan no one would believe...

Homage for Satan, sworn to the devil, Unholy master,
Destroy the heavens,
Homage for Satan, the invocation, rule the unwanted,
Armies of the dead....

Skinning the Christians and the lost and not forgave,
Punishing priest for the lives that they wouldn't save,
Waiting rebirth of the Christ back upon the earth...
Given temptation to wipe out the world....

Homage for Satan, god can not find you, hell is your heaven,
Jesus ripped apart.....

^deicide

Wrap the wire round the neck,
pull it tight to suffocate
His mouth is spewing steaming blood
Hang the body with a cord, gag his mouth
with shards of steel
He doesn't know the pain he'll feel
Interwoven deadly spikes, tightening cables
lacerate
Assorted gashes open wide
Ruptured veins are gushing blood, scraps of
skin are flying off
The body of the helpless prey

Jagged cable binds, you scream, No escape
Metal barbs tearing at you, Rend your flesh

Tear apart the tendons,
wire chokes the victim
Shred away his features,
shred away his being
Rip the tissue from the body, Rend your flesh

Lacerate, sharp spikes rip
Mutilate, pierce the skin

Mummified in the barbed wire
Breathing stops, life expires
Mummified in the barbed wire
Metal binds as you die

Tangled in a web of pain, No escape
Blood seeps through the metal sheath,
Saw-like noose

Tear apart the tendons,
wire chokes the victim
Shred away his features,
shred away his being
Gleaming cords encase the corpse, No escape

Lacerate, sharp spikes rip
Mutilate, pierce the skin

Mummified in the barbed wire
Breathing stops, life expires
Mummified in the barbed wire
Metal binds as you die

Steel wraps your face, blood soaks the steel
Bound in wire, soon to die, life choked out,
bleed to death

Mummified in the barbed wire

^cannibal corpse not really the same huh

!,,!

Too bad Amon Amarth isn't brutal death.

Those two are completely different. CC is about death and mutilating corpses, whilst Deicide sings about killing satan and skinning christians, mutilating their corpses. I don't think Deicide should have a own genre because of their lyrical theme. The brutal death metal sentres around death and mutilation and the death of jesus.

Also are Deicide and CC all the brutal death bands you know?

nah just my favs im not really in to DM(only really like cc, deicide, opeth, arch enemy, morbid angel and amon amarth i like Black Metal more always have always will

and as for skinning christians they dont talk about killing them much - homage for satan and kill the christian are the only ones i can think of songs like when satan rules his world, bible basher, fuck your god, in torment in hell ect have nothing to do with killing anyone its to do with him worshiping satan

Idiot.

And Venom IS Black metal, In the first wave black all the bands dident sound the same all the time like it is now with every darkthrone clone.

pingu53
Venom created black metal so ofcourse they're black metal
Metallica100
I'm not allocating all these sub genres, satantic death metal? Does that make slayer satantic thrash metal? No it's just thrash metal.

As for Chimaira well if you've heard their debut album then you can tell they HAD a nu metal influence without a doubt. Listen to 'Sp lit' and even songs on their second album like 'Down again' it's clear to see they came from a nu metal mold. Their downtuned guitars lacking much technical ability, sure it was heavy nu metal but nu all the same. They've adopted a heavier sound lately which is great but when it comes to naming what catergories a band falls into you hafta take into account all their material.

and Venom definately fits the bill of black metal lol.
ex0nic
Sanctity isn't metalcore. Their thrash/groove.

Some more Australian bands that should be noted are:
Black Majesty
Mortal Sin

oh and where's Insomnium?
Bodom
CoF isnt goth metal, well they sort of are, i still think theyre a cheap symphonicy black metal band that turned mainstream and shit..

and yeah i wouldnt give deicide a satanic death genre or anything lol, theres a lot of brutal death/death bands with religious themed lyrics.

btw, Varg is Burzum.
